Tiger Blood

Want to be there? Then show it – all the time from when get out of the car ‘til you leave the parking lot.

Be like a squirrel and run, never walk or stroll. Show all who are there (e.g. coaches, parents, other kids, etc.) that you want it and you want it bad.

You don’t have to be obnoxious about it; just let them know you are serious and would make a great addition to their club or team.

2nd Place May Be First

Many times you’ll attend a tryout with a club that you may be iffy about; just not sure you’d like to join that soccer club but someone encouraged you to attend.

This may turn out to be your first choice – life’s funny and does not always work the way we want or expect it to. So be your best and apply Tiger Blood from above.

Get There Early – Not On Time

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get there.

Do a dry run the day before just so you know where fields are, where you can park, etc. Sounds silly? Could be, but why take any chances? The day of the tryout be one of the first on the field and eager to go.

Seriously?

Don’t be one of those players that rushes out of the car as your parents swings into a handicap spot and throws your door open. Plan and take your time as you will have a better tryout. [Oh, and have a good breakfast and lay out your soccer gear the night before!]

I-Touch Soccer

Get in the touches early and often.

Don’t stroll across the field and start to kick the ball around nonchalantly. Get in tons of touches.

Your first fifty touches will be OK and the next fifty will be even better so keep going until you feel real comfortable and all warmed up. Arrive with an accomplice to help you get these touches in – these are before the tryouts begin!

Make Friends and [Try To] Influence People

Introduce yourself to just about everyone you see.

Really? No, not really.

But at least to those in your groups and certainly those who are evaluating you. Address them by their name – people love to hear their name being used.

Ask questions, politely of course, if you do not understand something you’re told to do. Needless to say, show good manners, act maturely and respectful. These attributes will send you places you’ve never imagined as if people like you, and you genuinely like them, they’ll bend over backwards for you.
