Coastal FC

Coastal FC

Background

[Rebranded as FCUSA Coastal.]

PTUSA Coastal Football Club (Coastal FC) started in 2012 making it a brand-spanking new premier soccer club in Massachusetts; this is a soccer club (i.e. with teams) and was created by PTUSA which is more of a training academy than a club.

The club was started to focus on the philosophy and development guidelines that have made PTUSA very successful since they started in 2002; players in Coastal FC enjoy a fun and challenging training environment with a dedicated coaching staff.

The technical director is Rens van Oostende Rens and he will be overseeing the technical development of the PTUSA staff and the Coastal FC players.

All Coastal FC coaches are full-time, licensed coaches dedicated to sport of soccer and the kids they develop; may be a work in progress… the teams in Coastal FC will play in Northeast Soccer League (NSL) / Massachusetts Soccer Conference (MASC) for the fall and spring season and have tremendous tournament opportunities throughout the region.

Club Composition

[It’s a moving target] as of now looks like they have two U10 teams and four U8 teams; since Coastal FC wants to build a club with a solid foundation from the ground up they expect to add more teams and age groups each year to allow the kids to grow and develop within the club.

Camps/Clinics

Coastal FC will leverage the resources they have with PTUSA and use them as much as possible.

Facilities

Much to be determined as they grow the club. Home field for games practices will be the Sacred heart High School, Kingston. Other sites will be developed and announced soon.

Website

  • Nothing really good about the site; new club, though, and hopefully get their act together; not very easy to navigate and moves too much back-and-forth to PTUSA; information does not flow very smoothly.

Have had 2 kids in this club and been with it since the beginning. Coaching has been consistently excellent and fair. Have found all of the coaches to be fair, very skilled, really focused on a developmental soccer philosophy, and great with kids. The club offers quite a bit of skills clinics, summer leagues, camps, etc which are also fantastic, including goalkeeper skills training and camps. Kids’ skills are evaluated at the end of each year so they know where they know what they need to work on and what they excel at. Fields and facilities are also some of the nicer ones we’ve seen in the many games we’ve been to in New England. My only complaint about the club has been regarding the operational/marketing communications end of the FC USA.

These people really know soccer, but wow, they could definitely use some coaching in communications and marketing. The website is pretty awful–not easy to navigate, info not always updated. Uniform quality was disaster this year, the the club mgmt said absolutely nothing about it as frustrated parents shelled out more money to replace short-lived uniforms. Finally, the relationship with UK elite (over a year later) is still not totally clear, and not fully integrated well within the websites (camps for example) or other marketing materials. Communication with parents could also be improved.

In summary–some kinks to work out as they grow, but their strengths are in soccer development. You won’t find more skilled coaches on the soccer field!

    1. I dont think uniforms were the kits this year were bad quality as they are sponsored by Adidas.

Coastal has sold me and I bought it! I feel duped!

Do not recommend this club to anyone.

    Stay away.

  3. Coastal is a sham!!! They preach player development and talk about how they care about the kids, bla bla bla

This is not true. They took my money, made my kid feel special and then with no warning cut her. We didn’t try out for any other clubs because we were loyal to coastal!

They were obviously not loyal to us!!

    Do not recommend the club!

The boys side to the program has started remarkably well. The training is as good as anything I have witnessed ( I have older kids ). The next year will be a challenge as they add older teams but Coastal has built a very solid foundation and I am proud to be a part of it!

We couldn’t be happier. The club is new and as such has growing pains. The owners and staff go out of their way to make my daughter feel special, the training offered is outstanding and they play at great facilities ( 2 miles from my home! )

I really love the PTUSA camps. They do a wonderful job and that is why i Joined Coastal. Unfortunately our experience has not been great. We have a young Inexperienced coach and I feel like we are getting much less than other teams. Other teams have more qualified coaches but they only coach the top teams and unfortunately my child is not on one of them. We joined club soccer to get better coaching and I truly believe that my child’s town coach is more qualified.

It is unfortunate because i really loved PTUSA. My family will be moving on this june

PTUSA ‘s youngest coach enjoyed an amazing club career and went on to play 4 years at a D1 college program. She has been working with PTUSA for a number of years. She is a wonderful role model for her U10 girls team. She enjoys a great relationship with her team and has made great progress as a coach.

EVERY player within Coastal has the opportunity to train with EVERY coach during our year round skills programs.

Perhaps sharing your concerns with the owners/directors would benefit your daughter more than posting on here!!

Have 2 children with the club and it has been a bit disappointing. We pay a lot of money and are always getting asked to help raise more money. I am paying for a service and do not need to feel bad about not trying to raise money for the club. The money goes into their pockets not mine.

Every team is asked to raise funds to off set costs of additional tournaments. This happens in most/all clubs. Coastal fees are less than most of their competitors and offers very good value for money.

EVERY family that tried out was given a copy of a yearly budget. Very little money is going into anyone’s ” pocket “

  8. Coastal FC is a great program. I have two kids in the program and I could not be happier with both teams. The owners Paul and Erica Turner are great and very personable. They are trying to grow not the largest club but the best club.

  9. I guess I’d agree that it’s a good club as we belong, but it just seems like the teams my daughter plays could be more competitive – we just play teams that are like us or below par. Need more competition, maybe just the “bracket” she’s in!

My daughter has had the privilege to train with this club for the last 3 years. I can not say enough about the staff and the owners Paul and Erica Turner. They care about the kids and understand the angst of the parents. The coaching staff is untouchable. Everyone is amazing. It’s not about being the biggest club with Coastal only the best. In my opinion they are just that The Best!!
