Kings FC, with home base in Framingham, was a premier soccer club serving the metro west area of Massachusetts – founded in 2009.

The Kings’ focus was on individual player growth and team concept; they had a larger coach-to-player ratio than most clubs which creates a personal connection with their players. Beyond soccer, they offered multiple opportunities such as non-soccer training, proper nutrition, physical therapy education as well as fun family events.

Their approach to playing soccer was unique in that very few clubs offer this in Mass (Abbey Villa is another such club). It is a style most commonly known as Total Football: is a tactical way of playing soccer in which any player can take the role of any other player on the field.

So if a midfielder needs to attack or defend then he /she (they?) can play that position on-the-fly. No player has a specific role other than the goalie; players are tested physically and need to be comfortable with playing many positions. All players on the field have the technical skill to attack.

While folks can debate this style and it certainly has passionate opinions on both side of the fence, as you select a soccer club for your play you need to understand this style of play. You don’t necessarily want to play the total football style for a couple of years then switch to another club where this is not their style – it’s tough to readjust your game and you want to make sure you are not pigeon holed into a style you’ll regret.

Club Composition

All Kings FC coaches had minimum Massachusetts Youth Soccer E License certified while many any also held NSCAA licenses such as the Regional Diploma, and the Goal Keeping Diploma.

I was not at all impressed with the Kings’ management staff or the coach’s abilities. The coach does not instill team spirit or confidence in players and often marginalized players from the rest of the team. Poor coaching and leadership skills here. They seem more concerned with collecting your money and suggesting additional “training” programs rather than working with and coaching players appropriately. Management seems inexperienced and powerless to address issues or to handle difficult coaching staff. Very disappointing experience overall for the value of what is promised in their materials and on their website. Do not waste your time or money with this club.

Not a very well organized soccer club–pricing lists do not appear on the website anywhere. It seems pricing is done in a very discretionary, ad hoc fashion by player, only after inquiry. Good indoor and outside facility overall.

Had my grandchildren train with King’s soccer and saw dramatic improvement in their play. Very happy with coaching, I think it was superb.

As a parent who has had children in both the John Smith and MPS programs and now finally with KINGS FC, I can truly say that KINGS FC has been the best club by far. They are very organized, the training schedule for the entire season is released prior to tryouts which as a parent of three with both my wife and I working this is very helpful. The coaching has been great, the coaches are full of energy and really build a personal relationship with the kids. As far as the teams go I can honestly say that the players really try to implement a game plan and playing style…The coach does not have them booting the ball up the field and chasing it. This winter the GU13, GU11, and GU10 teams all beat Scorpions NEP teams, definitely a club to look out for!

    1. The U13 team just lost 9-0 in state cup first round. Definitely not a club to worry about.

      1. The score was 9-0 but what people didn’t know was that their goal keeper broke her wrist in warm ups and was unable to play, due to other injuries (concussion, groin pull, broken toe) KINGS FC was forced to play with 11 players with many of them playing out of position. As a parent, I truly felt bad for the girls as it was the perfect storm of misfortune.

  7. I had the opportunity to catch the KINGS FC GU13 team play in the past weekends Scorpion Bowl Tournament and I was highly impressed with the passing and ball movement of the team. KINGS FC had possession of the ball for I’d say at least 70% of the game and it looked to be meaningful rather than possession just to have the ball…very impressed!
