Background (SCOR FC)

This is a relatively new (started in 2011) soccer club and they are growing fast. SCOR started with one U-11 team and has been growing since then: they have a U-13 and in 2012 they began developing three more teams (U-8 – U10).  They had 8 teams in NSL in Spring ’13 with hopes of 10 or more the following Spring.

SCOR is a member club of the Northeast Soccer League (NSL).

“SCOR”, by the way, is an acronym made up of Success, Character, Observe and Respect.

They are looking for coaches and soccer players and are recruiting aggressively.

SCOR is very serious, as many soccer clubs are, on being in top physical shape in order to play a more effective game and also to avoid injuries. They have a very comprehensive training program for their coaches on the warning signs and treatment of concussions from playing soccer.

  1. Disappointed says:

My child has played for scor for many years, I must say that I am truly disappointed that the club is selling out, losing their name and merging with another club. This club always had the family feel and now feels like a business.

  2. On the fence says:

This club does a lot of great things, however they are very unorginazed, base some decisions on politics instead of players skills and commitment. Very little practice space and time in the winter is a hindrance as well. And the owners have been heard many times talking badly about players that choose to leave to other parents and players, very unprofessional. With that being said the players are all very welcoming and most coaches are great.

  3. We Love Scor says:

My son has been playing on SCOR for the past year and loves it. He has improved greatly on his soccer skills and has overall become a stronger and more confident player. As a parent I am very pleased with SCOR and what they have done for him. I respect the coaches honest feedback and their passion for building a great soccer club!

  4. Firstly, I’m proud to put my name on this post. I have had a good experience with SCOR this session. We are from outside the immediate area, newcomers and new parents. I have felt comfortable and pleased. Player development at this age is about skill, not about score, and as a player/coach myself I appreciate this approach. There are always places for improvement, and the organization would certainly agree. But overall the overarching and vitriolic posts above do not represent what I can relate to in the SCOR experience.

  5. Happy kids says:

Everyone is entitled to their opinions but to slander a club on line who is doing their best to develop children to be their best is outrageous. My son has been playing on SCOR for many years and he couldn’t be happier. He has not only improved his skills as a soccer player but overall has learned life’s lessons i.e. what commitment means, being respectful, coping with major losses/wins etc.. He’s proud to wear his SCOR badge and as a parent I couldn’t be happier.

  6. Very Happy says:

Our Son and Daughter are currently on SCOR teams. We are very pleased with the coaching they have received. Kids are great, families are extremely friendly, Coaches are fabulous. Our kids have learned great skills in a very short time. They are extremely excited about playing with SCOR.

  7. VERY HAPPY says:

We have two daughters that currently play for SCOR teams. We couldn’t be happier for the experience that they are getting. Great people, great families, great coaching and great skills.

  8. LOOK ELSEWHERE! says:

The club is unorganized, coaches play favorites and kids know it which destroys confidence, NOT focused on player development, extremely political club – all in who you know and not based on player growth, commitment, or potential. They need to get control of coaches, keep schedules updated, and communicate more. Players are welcoming and friendly but talent wasted on shortsightedness. No doubt this club will continue to struggle based on a few poor coaches and leadership not taking control!

  9. If you are thinking of joining this club, please think hard before making the decision! The owners are very good in telling you what you want to hear, but when it comes down to it they do not follow their own meanings for the Scor name!

  10. Not happy says:

This club is all about politics! They back stab, contradict and abuse players and parents. So glad to be leaving this club!!

  11. SCOR Rovers Mom says:

My son tried out for a U10 team position in the spring. There were not enough U10 players to form a U10 team in the fall, so he was offered the opportunity to train with the Rovers. In one month we have seen great improvement in his soccer skills. Other parents from our town have even commented on his improvement at our town games. All of the coaches we have had contact with have been top notch. Not only are they good a teaching soccers skills, but they are enthusiastic about the game, and this enthusiam spreads to the players. My son looks forward to his SCOR practices and I can see a new level of confidence in him when he is on the field. I am so glad that there is a club like SCOR in our area!

  12. We just joined the club. So far my daughter loves the coaching and development that is offered. Very positive and upbeat. They are intense at the same time make it fun. I like that they do community service. The club is about making the kids well rounded as athletes and giving back. We are looking forward to the fall season!

  13. Ex SCOR Mom says:

Have to say that our experience with this club was excellent. The club was fairly new when our son played. Unfortunately they moved up the following year and didn’t have enough players to field a team, because the club was so new, and he didn’t have a chance to play with the club again. Would do it again in a heart beat. I agree that John and Dave have only the best at heart when it comes to this club!

  14. Parent of 2 says:

I have 2 kids playing on SCOR and they are both really happy. They are both good soccer players that have really improved in less than a year with SCOR. John and Dave that run SCOR are in it for the right reasons. Great club Great people

  15. My daughter had a lengthy tryout for the U12 team and in January was welcomed as a SCOR club player. She walked in to players and coaches welcoming her with open arms. Over the past few months she has really developed as a more confident, stronger player. The coaching has been wonderful, they put so much time and energy into the club, teams and players all as individuals as well as a teammates . Could not have asked for a better experience so far!

  16. Coaching is the best part of their club. I am also wondering where that comment came from?! The club is young and growing very fast, so they have experienced some serious growing pains, however they are run by good people who care abut developing the players over winning games. We have 2 children in the club and they wouldn’t leave for anything.

  17. Excellent experience. And as far as I am concerned, short of outright abuse, what does “too tough” mean regarding a coach? This is a premier level club/organization – not a local town team. Signing up my child, I had the expectation of a tough coach – it’s a much, much higher level of competition and play. The club is trying to build skill and character, not afford just another babysitting opportunity for the parents.

  18. Not so much; we had one coach who was way too tough on kids; guess bad luck; Ok club

  19. How come no review yet?

I have two girls on SCOR, they love it. Great people from coaches to others, caring very much about developing kids, from what I can tell. Nice club to belong to!
