Hide The Ugly Soccer Net

build a soccer shedLong gone are the days of giving my girls Barbie dolls, coloring books, bead kits and puzzles. And it just kills me to throw all this stuff out over the years.

Not because someday it may be worth something (long after I’m gone) and not because all the money we spent on them – well maybe some of that! But that it means a period in our lives we’ll never get back when all seemed so simple and we had more family time together.

Now we find ourselves buying items of a different nature such as smart phones, headphones, laptops, tablets, etc. and then there’s all that soccer gear.

The soccer gear surprisingly makes great gifts throughout the year. As you know, there’s cleats/shoes for turf and grass; then there’s futsal shoes; throw in balls, cold/heat gear, socks, headbands, etc. and you wonder why I long for the days of putting together a Barbie house late Christmas eve.

This year we ran out of things to surprise them with so we bought a soccer net!

I was always against the idea as we don’t have a very large backyard and I thought it would look out of place in our yard, especially when not in use such as between seasons (we should be so lucky!) or they just got tired of it after a bit.

I decided to house this bad boy in a shed – a yet to be built shed. I picked up lot of great traits from my father but not his woodworking skills or his love of building things.

It’s 2014 and a time in my life to look for shortcuts so asked around and I found a great source of building plans for sheds. I surprised myself how easy it really was and it was actually a lot of fun to build.

ok signI was able to follow the extremely detailed instructions and even decided to upsize a bit to also house some pool supplies and my lawnmower. I was quite pleased with not only myself but also the plans themselves.

Want to solve the same storage dilemma I had for soccer equipment and lawn equipment? Then check out the building plans I used at Ted’s Woodworking.

It took me a very short time to solve a huge issue for a small piece of property – making the yard look uncluttered and organized – now I even have room for all the dolls I told my wife I was throwing out!
